Luke Geraty does it again! He delivers on a topic hotly discussed among pastors (okay, maybe not so hotly discussed, but maybe it should be): how to deliver a sermon without notes.
My personal sense is that even if a pastor should desire to bring an outline or manuscript into the pulpit they should KNOW THEIR MATERIAL. This is not only a “secret” to preaching without notes, it is a secret to preaching that has greater potential for engaging the congregation.
And above all: Soak yourself in the Scripture you are preaching. Meditate on it. Pray it. Read it. Reread it. Read it again. Sing it (or not, depending on your ability to sing ). Read it some more. Pray it again. You get the point. Own it. Better yet, let it own you so that the voice of the Spirit inundates your every thought.
And go back and read Luke’s helpful post.
